You just opened a business or maybe just realised you need a better presence online for your company.
Anyone can randomly post pictures on Social Media Platforms, that’s the easy part.
The hardest part of doing SMM for your business is actually coming up with a comprehensive strategy and sticking to it.
This article is going to guide you on how to start your strategy by providing you simple steps to follow.
1. Define your target audience.
Who do you want to reach? Let’s say you are a real estate agent selling luxury properties. In this case, your target niche would be high income people, CEOs, investors etc.
This step is the most important. Take your time to build up the perfect profile of an ideal client in your mind. Then tailor the posting design and approach according to that profile.
2. Research problems that your perfect client might encounter and provide answers.
You know who your perfect client should be. Great! Now, what are their most important problems? And how can you help them?
Answering a few pain points will give you advantage. Offer value to your potential customers before you ask for a sale.
3. Create a content bank.
You need to be extremely organised to be able to do SMM properly. Pull together all the materials you have for posting: videos, infographics, pictures, quotes, quick tips, blog posts related to your industry. It will be much easier in the future to have media available.
And you will always need to update this database with new content. Don’t forget, this is a continuous task.
4. Don’t forget to engage and create connections.
What is the point of doing social media marketing? For most businesses, it’s to create connections, potential customers or allies. You never know who can give you a favourable recommendation, so engage, engage, engage!
5. Research your competitors.
Continuing with the real estate example. Most real estate agencies have at least a Facebook business page and a LinkedIn page. Most sales are conducted via Facebook Groups and connections on LinkedIn. So it makes sense to join these 2 and give them priority if you’re also a real estate agent, right?
But this is where you can also come ahead and create an Instagram account as well and work on it. There are a few agents who have successful Instagram accounts already, but the truth is, that’s 1 out of 10. Chances are, the real estate competitors near you will not have that much of a presence on Instagram. You could take advantage of that.
6. Plan your social sharing ahead.
Use platforms like Later.com or Hootsuite to schedule your posts ahead. This will help you post constantly. If you spend a day a month scheduling the posts for the whole month, you can use the rest of the month to properly engage with people, research your competitors further and find valuable share-able content without any pressure.
7. Evaluate and adapt.
Every month (or every 3 months, if time doesn’t allow you), create a progress report. Evaluate your progress and adapt your content to aim for even better results. Try different approaches, and then compare what worked best. This is a crucial step in order to be successful.
8. Keep up with the latest changes.
Social Media Platforms, especially Facebook and Instagram, continuously change their algorithms, at least a few times a year. More often than not, you will need to change your approach according to the latest changes in order to stay afloat.
